The Devon Turnbull Experience, Part 2
Hi Steve, transmission line and especially this model is not new. I bought a set of Impulse 54 in 1986. Designed by the brit Keith Marshall. Very detailed and exceptionally low. Interesting to see this speaker again.
Not enough people have experienced these types of speakers. You and z reviews know whats up.
Hegel is usually considered to be highly neutral and dynamic, wheras Electrocompaniet was traditionaly warmer sounding. Its really interesting that Electrocompaniet is the more detailed one in this comparison 😄
Bought a pair of ESS AMT5 bookshelves in 74 as I was a poor college kid. Used them well into the 90's and still have then stored in the original boxes. Just turned 70 and need to get them out and see what needs to be done to revive them. Loved the sound. I saw these Pure Audio Trio 10's at the Tampa show this year and got excited to see the big Heil's being used and the ESS logo. Got me thinking...
I love headhones, but their cup/pads aren't like "little" rooms? My biggest problem w cans is their frequency response. Big deviations in midrange and high freq
I bought my a1 to tame the kantas no1 focal analytical top end.
if my fans are quieter there is a problem
Zu Audio👎👎👎
lol ok, maybe I am in that "cables are snake oil" camp a bit, but yes always coming back to see and learn more whether or not I think about the product in the thumbnail. Because at the end of the day if we are on an island in the ocean with nothing but a crosley and a stack of records, it's probably going to be "ok what are we listening to first??"
IF the item is sold by crutchfield, you have a 60 day return, I had this fear. I bought my Sonus Faber Lumia 2's from cruthfield because of their return policy. I also bought the Emotiva PT1 and BasX A2 and I am in love with my system. Sounds wonderful. Entire system $2K
This made me excited about music!
That's nice to hear!
Have you ever demoed the original energy reference connoisseur floor standing monitors.
How does this compare to the Freys+
Audiophile speakers are not meant to be "accurate" (there's no such thing as an accurate studio monitor either). Audiophile speakers are designed to sound "good" to the average, everyday user.
Sera una Noche - WOW! What a fantastic recording. Thanks Steve.
Hi Steve Which super tweeter would you recommend using with cornwall 4’s

Sir as y mentioned no bass and treble. So how to adjust them apart from the volume
Sometimes there is blind luck OR maybe it's just not that important to most people . in 1985 i bought the original polk SDAs monsters , a carver M1 amp and a parasound preamp at half price . my room was 10 feet wide and 15 ft long with fifteen ft slanted ceiling . i set up everything as instructed by the company and treated the room as well . the result was spectacular . fast forward to four weeks ago when i bought a new system ( i gave the old one to my son) and the room where i listen , sleep , watch tv etc. must be considered the anti audiophile room .everything about it is wrong for good listening . not being able to change the room ,i plopped down the new towers on either side of the tv up against the wall and toed them in to my sitting position in bed . hooked up everything , turned it on and miraculously , i was back in 1985 with an almost identical sound. how is that possible ? well i do t know but i'm not going to sabotage it by following some rules of placement and room conditioning .
If you don't like electrostatics stay true to your Zu Audios Steve. They are efficient and go loud after all. I'm guessing a a roller coaster frequency response and gobs of ringing and stored energy is your idea of accurate sound, right?
Accuracy isn't a priority for me, and apparently dynamics and scale are not a priority for you. The point is you can't have it all. We each choose our sound.
I have a chance to buy an older pair, not as dynamic as the 2C . should I do it? I am using ADS towers restored now, great bass, highs ect. I have decent power to drive them.
Very articulate young man, his father I’m sure it was very proud
We lost our house when I started my business as well about 15 years ago. Going strong now.
Just purchased the hta 200. Can't wait to receive it. It is the big brother of this amp and this one has a remote with motorized volume control.
It’s a cracking amp. Hooked up to MA Studio Gold 100’s it’s just brilliant - rich, detailed, and no harshness. The critical thing here, is tone controls - balls to so called “purity” - it goes a long way to correcting music or compensating for a room that doesn’t place nice with your speakers. Audiophools will tell you that it muddies the sound, I call nonsense…! Don’t get me started on cables….
The whole idea of purity relies on a lot of things being right for you. Your room, speaker placement, the recording, the mix, the mastering, your source, your pre, your amp. As an audio engineer, I find it essential to be able to adjust EQ in those instances when all of those things conspire to make a record not suit me. Especially being able to control the high end. So many mixes/mastering jobs are just too bright and saturated. Being able to roll a little off makes them much more enjoyable. And not being locked into the typical single treble control is great. What a terrific little $150 EQ! With a hard bypass, it really makes no sense not to have one.
I dropped out at the price....... I'm a sub
these look like 'Romy the cat's horns
FYI, the word Darko uses to describe what you are after is "density".
How does mounting work? Are those like special tripods?
I listened to Noga Erez-Kids Against the Machine. I had to listen to Dave Brubeck-Time Out to get my ears straighten out. Noga is not for me.
Hey, at least you tried!
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac I did try. When it comes to audio gear and music your opinions and advice are greatly appreciated. I love your videos and watch often.
outdated info...
thats why we never bought parasound,,,, sorry to john curl
What did you buy instead?
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac mccormack
25 yrs later,, now,, trying to find similar musical goodness,,, for less than usd 7000... sigh,,,
The flexibility in the crossover is the main reason I'm looking at this product. I love my outlaw rr2160 but the crossover is sellectable (60,80,100hz). Nice but I'd love to cross lower. This amp is variable down to 40hz. Killer.
Wharfedale rs 12in dd full rang cabs form early 70ts , late 60ts . The sound is great. Nice night time with tube amp. Second set up.
How is it my discontinued $35 Google Chromecast Audio using the built-in dac can make my entire system sound so fantastic?
Magic!
So many interesting choices..... torn between borresen x3, revel f228be, dali epicon 6/8 and perlisten s7t..... too much reading (no option to listen to any of those in my country), and my brain is boiling... oh, forgot to add one more participant - kef r11 meta....
My dream loudspeaker is Quad ESL-63 and the Gradient SW-63 sub. I heard this combo in a shop 1988 and Dire Straits have never sounded that good since.
USB Configuration: The A10 includes a USB Type-A port for installing configuration files called “Mastertunings,” which optimize the built-in DSP unit for specific placements or sound preferences.
Yes, and I use them during the test, in the video
By adding the sock you are changing the frequency roll off and actually making the bass less bangs and more snaps (mid bass) it is now a ported box with less air resonance tuned to a higher HZ.
maybe they give a nice tint for live instruments, but for modern music they are completely useless, the composition is all out of place. Had them for my first audio system, replaced for dynaudio emit 20 just recently and finally I can listen to music again after half a year of torture
Steve, the “record weight” is actually used for playing 45’s.
Didn’t listen to my system for several weeks due to vacation, family visiting, and then Covid. Was all excited to finally get time to fire it up and when I did it didn’t sound as good as I remembered. I thought my son had changed some settings. Sub was boomy, main speakers sounded off. A few days later it was back to sounding “normal “. Was it me or something in the system? Who knows?
Covid could definitely affect your hearing, glad it's back to normal
It would be cool to get a list of all of the speakers that you have heard. Even if you can't remember all of them, missing 4 or 5 out of a thousand in ony .2%!
I always must question when a designer deliberately ignores basics - like putting sharp edges on the cabinet or in this case additionally a tweeter waveguide without roundover. That does not mean that the speaker sounds bad, but it does mean that there is additional diffraction that in my view does not need to be. Discussions about it not being audible have long been debunked. Especially when the speakers are otherwise magical, I simply do not understand the compromise.
i wish rel would bring back the wood finishes for their top models.. this model is entry level for rel. but really well thought out. perfect at it's price point. Rel is the only game in town for two channel music.
I'm a speaker-guy but these actually look unique and cool. Not over-done but colorful, good job on the design!
Stevie G - what a guy. Since when did he become a Class D convert ? I know - when the price tag is over $20 K.
David, very odd comment. This amp is half that price. $9850, it is a stereo amplifier. Not convertible to Mono. So there!
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac You're slumming it Steve. What next glamping ?
Drooling
Daryl said the Watt and then Watt/Puppies were not the original truncated pyramid speakers. The original truncated pyramid speakers were: Dick Sequerra’s Pyramid Metronome 2+2. These came on the market 1977. Dick Sequerra’s like Dave Wilson was way ahead of his time in speaker design.
